Paramount Pictures has just released the second trailer for Terminator Genisys after fans were asked to Tweet #TerminatorUnlock
Both a sequel to and a reboot of the original 1984 Terminator film, Genisys stars Game of Thrones' Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, and Jai Courtney as Reese. Schwarzenegger, who played the Terminator in the original films, plays an old model T-800 robot in the new film.
According to a recent plot summary, the film is set in 2029. The Future War is raging and a group of human rebels has the evil artificial-intelligence system Skynet on the ropes. John Connor (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ Jason Clarke) is the leader of the resistance, and Kyle Reese is his loyal soldier, raised in the ruins of post apocalyptic California.
As in the original, Reese is sent back in time to save Connor, John's mother, from assassination by a Terminator programmed to kill her. But Genisys, the fifth instalment in the Terminator franchise, is set in an alternate timeline.
In this timeline, it transpires that Connor was orphaned by a Terminator at age 9. Since then, in a move that bemused fans of the original film when the Genisys plot details were first announced, Connor has been raised by an older T-800 (Schwarzenegger), programmed to guard rather than to kill, whom she refers to as “Pops”.
