WATCH: Fans are not impressed with Justin Lin’s new Star Trek Beyond trailer
Just as hype is reaching fever pitch for Star Trek: The Force Awakens, opening this week, the Star Trek Beyond trailer has dropped.
Unfortunately, rather than knocking some of the wind out of the sails of Star Trek, the trailer has irked fans of the popular sci-fi series.
With the reins handed over from JJ Abrams (who is helming The Force Awakens) to Justin Lin, best known for the Fast and Furious movies, the tone of Beyond has shifted somewhat more towards action and comedy than the previous reboots Star Trek and Star Trek: Into Darkness.

Fans have taken to social media to air their grievances, with several accusing producers of aping Guardians of the Galaxy and bemoaning the lightweight tone.
The tailer begins with the crew listening to anachronistic music before the action kicks off with a focus on Sofia Boutella as an ass-kicking alien and a brief glimpse (we think) of Idris Elba as the villain.
Take a look and judge for yourself:
Producers of Star Trek are unashamedly destroying Star Trek. Kudos morons— James (@JimboBohan) December 15, 2015

Did they look at Guardians of the Galaxy and think "Yeah. That's Star Trek done right that is. Let's do that." Kill me.— Mike Martin (@MathasGames) December 15, 2015
I wonder if the editor for the new Star Trek trailer realized how meta they were being by choosing Sabotage as their song choice.— Jonathan Paull (@zamn) December 15, 2015

Star Trek trailer left me cold. First time I've not been excited about new Trek. Boo. I'm not confident Bones will get more than one scene.— Ozalina (@Ozalina) December 15, 2015
