Vin Diesel has revealed how his latest role in The Last Witch Hunter helped him deal with the death of his good friend and fellow actor Paul Walker.
Walker died in a car crash in 2013 during the filming of Fast & Furious 7 and Diesel has regularly paid tribute to his co-star.
In The Last Witch hunter he plays a witch slayer who has been cursed with immortality and is forced to watch his wife and daughter die before he sets out for revenge.
“Death was a huge theme last year,” the actor told The Associated Press. “There was something therapeutic about playing this role after going through [Walker’s death]."
The actor was moved to tears when he added, "The idea that someone immortal could be so melancholy. 2014 was a tough year for me in some ways – a lot of ways.
“Playing a character that was masking his sorrow — his loss — was very appropriate for the time, because that’s what I was doing in real-life with the post-‘Furious 7.”
Diesel added that he is pleased to be fulfilling the promise he and Walker made to continue with the Furious franchise and said the actor would be "smiling down at the idea of actually doing what we talked about, which is going to the 10th chapter."
The Last Witch Hunter opens on October 23.
