Robert Downey Jr. claims he walked out of an interview on Channel 4 because of its “creepy dark agenda”.

The Avengers star cut short a chat with British journalist Krishnan Guru-Murthy last week after he was asked about his past battle with drugs and alcohol. The 50-year-old has now spoken about his decision to walk out, and revealed he wishes he had left sooner.

“We’re promoting a superhero movie, a lot of kids are going to see it, this has nothing to do with your creepy dark agenda that I’m feeling all of a sudden, like, ashamed and obligated to accommodate, your weirdo sh*t,” he told Howard Stern on Tuesday.

“I’m completely uninvolved when it comes to simple boundaries like, ‘You know what, you’re weirding me out, you are a bottom-feeding muckraker.'”

Robert had been in London to promote Avengers: Age of Ultron, when the Channel 4 journalist asked about his “dark periods”, referring to his time in prison and battle with substance abuse earlier in his career.

While on Howard’s radio show, the actor added that he had learnt a lesson from the experience, and he’d be more cautious in the future.

“What I have to do in the future is just give myself permission to say, ‘That is more than likely a syphilitic parasite, and I need to distance myself from this clown,’ otherwise I’m probably going to put hands on somebody and then there’s a real story,” he said.

Meanwhile Krishnan has already defended his line of questioning in an article for British newspaper The Guardian.

“None of [the questions] should have come as a surprise, but I nonetheless offered him two opportunities to say, ‘I’d rather not talk about this stuff,'” he wrote. “He could have engaged more with the earlier questions and I’d have never had time for the ones he didn’t like.”
