Pope Francis has met Jesus face-to-face and given him a blessing, or rather he has met the man playing him the new big screen Ben Hur.

Brazilian actor Rodrigo Santoro (39) is playing Jesus Christ in the film which is based on Lew Wallace’s best-selling 1880 novel Ben-Hur:  A Tale of the Christ rather than the 1959 film (which was a remake of the 1925 film by Louis B Mayer).

The actor, currently filming in Rome, received an audience with the Pope on Wednesday and received a papal blessing.

Santoro is best known for playing Laura Linney's office crush in Love, Actually although he also played the gay lover of Jim Carrey's character in the beautiful I Love You Philip Morris and has had roles in 300 and cult TV series Lost.

The photo of Santoro with Pope Francis was posted by fellow Ben Hur star Nazanin Boniadi who plays Esther in the upcoming epic Ben Hur.
