Negga is tipped to pick up an award at the 2017 Academy Awards for her role in drama 'Loving'.

The film tells the story of Richard and Mildred Loving, an interracial couple whose arrest for marrying in 1958 and subsequent legal battle led to the end of America's anti-miscegenation laws.

Inspired by Emmy Award-winning documentary 'The Loving Story', the film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and has been met with rave reviews.

Negga said the role was a personal and professional highlight.

"It was like being with a friend for two years," she said of Mildred. "I fell deeply in love with Mildred and Richard and their story. I think we all just wanted to do them justice."
