Jared Leto is going to great lengths to outshine Heath Ledger’s Joker in his upcoming superhero film Suicide Squad.

The Oscar winner’s co-stars have revealed that he has a rather disturbing technique for getting into character.

First, Margot Robbie described how the Dallas Buyers Club star wrote her a love letter and surprised her with a live rat in a box, and then Viola Davis added that he had sent his co-stars a dead pig, all in a bid to channel his creepy character.

Leto himself was speaking about the film at Las Vegas’s CinemaCon last night, and on the red carpet, he was asked about the gifts he’d been sending the rest of the Suicide Squad cast.

Adding to the list, the actor told E! News that he had sent “used condoms” and anal beads to his co-stars.

“I did a lot of things to create a dynamic, to create an element of surprise and spontaneity and to really break down any kind of walls that may be there.

“The Joker is somebody who doesn't really respect things like personal space or boundaries,” he said.

Fellow cast member Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje also revealed that Leto sent him “sticky Playboy magazines”.

While no one could explain where Leto has been getting his revolting gifts in the first place, co-star Will Smith later corroborated his story.

“He went full Joker. He really set the tone. He wasn't playing with it,” he said.

“He was dead serious as an actor. He was going in and he was 100pc going into this character.”
