Irish fitness guru Pat Henry shoots scene with Dustin Hoffman and Judi Dench for new movie
Irish fitness guru Pat Henry has fulfilled a life-long dream after appearing in a new movie alongside Dustin Hoffman and Judi Dench.
The celebrity trainer was gobsmacked to get a call from acclaimed director Derbhla Walsh asking him to fly to London as she deemed him “perfect” for the role in Esio Trot, a Roald Dahl adaption.
And the Herald can reveal how he bonded with lead actress Judi Dench over his tragic adoption past.
She earned an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Philomena in the movie based on the real-life of a mum searching for her adopted son.
“We chatted away for a good while and I was chatting to her about Philomena and how much her story resonated with me.
“I only found out by accident that I was adopted at six months of age. My mother lived in Rathmines at the time and she put an ad in the old Irish Press saying ‘Baby for adoption’ and she handed me over to my parents when they responded.
“I only found this out five or six years ago, I had no idea until then and I was talking to Judi about all this and how many emotions seeing her film brought out in me.
“I later found out I had two brothers and a sister and coincidentally, one of them went into the same line of business as me.
“So I was speaking to Judi about that and she was just amazed by the reaction to the Philomena story, not just in Ireland but all over the world.”
The gym owner and lifestyle guru was also bowled over after meeting Dustin Hoffman, saying he was “nervous” beforehand.
“It’s hard not to be in awe of someone like him, given the career that he’s had and they say that you should never meet your heroes as they’ll only disappoint but he was great,” he continued.
“It was an amazing experience to appear in the same scene as two legends like them.”
This isn’t his first time on a film set though – he has always appeared in a number of productions including the most recent series of Vikings.
