The Inbetweeners 2, which released in Ireland and the UK yesterday, has taken a whopping £2.75m (€3.45m) in its first day in cinemas.
This is a new record for the best opening day for a comedy in the UK, beating Mrs Brown's Boys D'Movie, which took €5.4m in its first two days.
It was released to the public yesterday and smashed its own record of £2.58 (€3.24m) million, which the first instalment of the series, The Inbetweeners Movie, scored in its first day in 2011.
The latest instalment sees hapless trio Will (Simon Bird), Simon (Joe Thomas) and Neil (Blake Harrison) head to Australia where Jay (James Buckley) is supposedly having the time of his life on a gap year.
The first big screen instalment in 2011 was the third biggest film that year in the UK and if figures continue as they are, it looks set to have the biggest opening weekend of all 2014 films in the UK.
