'I nearly got role of Saoirse's pal in Brooklyn' - Aoibhin Garrihy
Actress Aoibhin Garrihy said she would have "killed" to land a top role in the Oscar-nominated film Brooklyn.
The former Fair City star auditioned for the part of Nancy, the best friend of lead character Eilis Lacey, played by Saoirse Ronan.
Despite getting four call backs, the Castleknock native was eventually turned down and said that the rejection "never gets easy".
Adapted from the novel by Wexford author Colm Toibin, Brooklyn was nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars and saw Saoirse nominated for Best Actress.
"I auditioned for the part of her friend and I got, like, two then three and four call backs for it," Aoibhin said.
"I had read the book and the script and went for the auditions feeling that, 'God, I would really kill for this one'.
"The closer you get to the role, the more and more you invest in it," she said.
"To not get those ones never gets easy. Especially when you see it on screen and how it has done so well.
"In hindsight, though, I think they made great choices with the casting," she added.
Aoibhin will wed hotelier John Burke at his Armada Hotel in Spanish Point, Co Clare, in September.
"It's going to be a celebration of the area, the local produce and just a bit of a hooley really. We want it relaxed," she told April's issue of Irish Tatler.
