Hollywood actress Ellen Page will produce and star in The Third Wave, the debut feature from Irish writer/director David Freyne.
The film picks up where most zombie movies end - as people who were turned into zombie like monsters due to a virus are finally cured.
However, they now find themselves haunted by their behaviour while they were contaminated and struggle to be accepted by society.
Their isolation leads to the rise of a terrorist moment which sends Europe into chaos once again.
“The Third Wave brings an entire new perspective to the zombie genre, which I love,” Page said in a statement.
“David Freyne truly shifts his lens on society’s role in the apocalyptic world. I’m so grateful for this opportunity to share his thoughtful approach to horror with audiences.”
Irish actor Sam Keeley, last seen in In The Heart of the Sea, will co-star while Dublin's Titled Pictures will also produce.
The Third Wave will be jointly financed by the Irish Film Board and Bac Films and will film in Ireland later this year.
