Cameron Diaz: 'I was never interested in becoming a mother'
Cameron Diaz doesn’t regret not having children.
The 41-year-old has never married despite dating some of the hottest men in showbusiness including Justin Timberlake and Jared Leto. It has also meant she has never become a parent but this is something she is perfectly comfortable with.
“It’s so much more work to have children. To have lives besides your own that you are responsible for—I didn’t take that on. That did make things easier for me,” she explained to the US edition of Esquire. “A baby— that’s all day, every day for 18 years. I like protecting people, but I was never drawn to being a mother.”
Cameron hardly has time for motherhood with her successful career as one of the biggest box office stars in recent years. Having just finished promoting The Other Woman, she will next be seen in another comedy, Sex Tape with Jason Segel. But despite being so busy, Cameron thinks she still has a less stressful time than working mothers.
“I have it much easier than any of them. That’s just what it is,” she said. “Doesn’t mean life isn’t sometimes hard. I’m just what I am. I work on what I am. Right now, I think, things are good for me. I’ve done a lot. And I don’t care anymore.”
Another thing that she doesn’t care about is her age. The Bad Teacher star turns 42 in August but Cameron is relishing being in her forties.
“I like being 41. I love it. So much sh*t just falls away. Fear, mostly. It’s the best age,” she enthused. “That’s when a woman knows how to work things, or she doesn’t care about that anymore. You just stop being afraid. You don’t worry about what men think. You just don’t worry that time registers anything awful.”
