Batman v Superman's leaked trailer mocked for being too dark
The Dawn of Justice trailer, which appeared online shortly after Star Wars, has elicited a poor reaction from fans criticising dark visuals and being too bleak
Hours after director Zack Snyder tweeted a Batman v Superman teaser of such brevity that it was described as a "fancy calendar invite" the full trailer has been leaked online.
The trailer was due to launch in IMAX cinemas on Monday, but a camcorder rip with Portuguese subtitles subsequently appeared.
Coming hot on the heels of the 111-second teaser for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which was all optimism and adventure, the Batman vs Superman trailer is altogether a less cheery proposition, and reaction has been mixed.
It's been mocked for its extreme darkness, of the visual as well as thematic varieties.
Darkness, and bleakness.
There were quite a few comparisons to The Lego Movie's version of Batman, voiced by Will Arnett.
Neither Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy or Snyder's Superman film, Man of Steel, were a barrel of laughs, but fans teed up by Star Wars wanted this battle to be more fun.
Fun, and possibly a love affair, progressing to on-screen fan fic.
Because, really: what is Batman thinking taking on the Man of Steel?
Oh, hang on. What is Superman thinking taking on the Dark Knight?
There was a bit of turf war between Marvel fans and DC fans.
And a key line from Batman divided opinion.
But out of the darkness came light, and other metaphors not involving the ability to see. Voiceovers from Holly Hunter, Jeremy Irons as Batman's butler Alfred Pennyworth, and Jesse Eisenberg as the villainous entrepreneur Lex Luthor, entertained a lot of people.
