Angelina teams up with Irish animators
Hollywood A-Lister Angelina Jolie has joined forces with a Kilkenny animation company on a new film.
Jolie will act as executive producer on 'The Breadwinner', the latest from Oscar-nominated firm Cartoon Saloon.
Based on the popular children's novel by Deborah Ellis, it tells the story of Parvana, a girl growing up in Afghanistan in 2001.
Jolie said she was delighted to be working with such a talented and creative production team.
"I know they will do justice to the richness, creativity and strength of Afghan culture and to little girls like Parvana," she said.
"Millions of young girls like Parvana are growing up today under oppression or conflict and helping their families to survive in those conditions. This story is a reminder of the immense value of their contribution."
'The Breadwinner' will be directed by Nora Twomey, who has been working closely with Jolie in Los Angeles.
"The subject matter is very close to Angelina's heart," Twomey said.
