All bets are off... bookies close market on Irish actor Aidan Turner becoming the next James Bond
Leading bookmakers have closed the market on Irish actor Aidan Turner becoming the next James Bond after a recent increase of bets.
Poldark star Aidan Turner is the hot favourite to be announced as the next James Bond as betting on him as been suspended.
Bookmakers report that there has been a massive increase in bets placed on the 32-year-old last night and again this morning.
Fans are predicting the 32-year-old could soon leave behind Cornwall's tin mines for the slick world of international espionage as they put their money on him to replace Daniel Craig.
Bookies said Turner, who was at odds on at 2/5 to replace the English actor, had received a lot of interest over the last couple of days.
Speaking to the Irish Mirror, Liam Glynn from BoyleSports said, "The next James Bond market was all one way traffic for Aidan Turner over the past 24 hours and punters could not get enough of him.”
“It now looks like the deal may well be done and dusted after we laid a four figure bet on Turner in one of our South Dublin shops.
"We are going to take a hit on Turner if he manages to succeed Daniel Craig so our traders have had no choice but to suspend the market as it seems that a MI6 agent may well know a secret that we don’t just yet.”
Turner was a respected jobbing actor until cast in the BBC remake of bodice ripper 'Poldark' and - entirely for dramatic integrity - required to whip his top off.
The Internet swooned and Mr "Poldark and handsome" was catapulted to insta-fame.
The Clondalkin actor emanates Bond levels of ruggedness and clearly can carry off the shirtless thing.
But, as with Craig, he values his privacy and the pressure of life as a global super-star might cause a little bit of him to shrivel up and die inside. Still nothing ventured and all that.
The official announcement on who will replace Craig is expected to be announced next week.
