Julianne Moore has admitted she enjoyed playing a shallow and desperate actress in David Cronenberg's new film Map To The Stars.

The actress is already winning rave reviews at the Cannes Film Festival for her role as Havana Segrand in the dark satire of Hollywood.

Julianne said: "I love the movie business because it gives us the chance to explore all these kind of basic human condition. What is the real part? What is the fake part? To have an opportunity in your job to do that kind of stuff is lucky."

The 53-year-old actress has won acclaim for her performances in a broad range of films from The Big Lebowski to Boogie Nights and The Kids Are All Right.

Asked if she agrees she's more level-headed than her character in Map To The Stars, she said: "I think so. I hope so.

"You have to have a fairly realistic assessment of who you are, what your abilities are and where you are in your career and your age. Hopefully I've never been that extreme."

She also stars in the upcoming Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1.

Julianne said: "There are plenty of times where I've looked at stuff and gone 'I can't do that.'

"I don't look at things and feel like, 'I can do everything.' I can't. But if I have a connection and a response to it, I tend to be aware of what I'm capable of and what I'm not."
