Mirren to replace Midler in biopic?
Dame Helen Mirren is said to be stepping in for Bette Midler in the Phil Spector biopic.
The Oscar-winning British star could be starring opposite Al Pacino as the legendary music producer in David Mamet's film, which explores the relationship between Spector and his defence attorney Linda Kenney Baden, when she represented him during his first trial for murder, reported Deadline.
Production on the film had to be halted last week when Bette - who was portraying Linda - was forced to bow out after suffering a herniated disc that may require surgery.
David wrote and is directing the project, which also stars Arrested Development's Jeffrey Tambor as Bruce Cutler, an attorney on Spector's defence team, while Barry Levinson and Al are executive producing.
Filming is expected to resume next week.
Dame Helen, who picked up an Academy Award for The Queen, has also won various other gongs, including four Emmys, a Bafta and a Golden Globe.
