Michael Douglas is to undergo eight weeks of radiation and chemotherapy for a tumour in his throat.

The 65-year-old actor said he expected to make a full recovery and told People magazine he was "very optimistic".

The Oscar-winning Wall Street star, who is married to British actress Catherine Zeta Jones, appears this year in the sequel, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.

Michael is currently outside the US, publicist Allen Burry said. He refused to give his location or say where he would be treated.

Michael and Catherine bought a house on Bermuda nearly a decade ago and Zeta-Jones said they planned to raise their two children there.
