Mel Gibson has revealed more about his new Viking movie project.
The actor-and-director was reported to be planning a Norse-themed epic starring Leonardo DiCaprio, and at the press conference for thriller the Edge Of Darkness he revealed more details, according to Collider.com.
Gibson said: "I think it's going to be in the English that would have been spoken back then, and Old Norse - whatever the ninth century had to offer, I'm going to give you real."
The Lethal Weapon star - who directed The Passion of the Christ in Aramaic, Latin and Hebrew, and Apocalypto, which was scripted in ancient Yucatec Mayan - described his new project as a "big, wacky, epic".
Gibson revealed a Viking theme is one of the first ideas he ever had for a movie, when he was just 16 and dreaming of becoming a filmmaker.
He said: "I want a Viking to scare you. I want to see somebody who I have never seen before speaking low, guttural German and scaring the living s**t out of me. What would that have been like?"
The Departed's William Monahan is writing the script, and Variety previously reported that shooting is roughly scheduled for this autumn.
Gibson gave nothing away about the plot or location, but said of casting he wanted "somebody I've never seen before".
