The Flight Of The Conchords star, who is often teased about his diminutive size, signed on to Peter Jackson's Lord Of The Rings prequel to play Lindir, an elf from Rivendell, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The New Zealand actor previously played an elf nicknamed Figwit in two films, The Fellowship Of The Ring and The Return Of The King, but will not be returning to this part.

The Hobbit, which has started shooting in New Zealand, follows Bilbo Baggins' (played by Martin Freeman) epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.

Elijah Wood, Sir Ian McKellen, Cate Blanchett and Orlando Bloom will reprise their roles in the twin movies of JRR Tolkien's fantasy novel.

Bret is most famous for his work on the Emmy-nominated Flight Of The Conchords, the musical comedy show in which he created and starred with Jemaine Clement and James Bobin.
