McAvoy and Fassbender for Akira?
James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender have been shortlisted to star opposite each other in the film of Japanese graphic novel Akira.
The X-Men: First Class stars are among a list of actors who have been sent scripts by Warner Bros for the two lead roles, according to Deadline.com
Inglourious Basterds star Michael is in talks to play the hero, the leader of a biker gang, Kaneda, while Tron: Legacy's Garrett Hedlund, Chris Pine, Justin Timberlake and Joaquin Phoenix have also been shortlisted for the role.
Last King Of Scotland star James has been sent the script for Kaneda's best friend turned nemesis,Tetsuo, along with Robert Pattinson and Andrew Garfield.
Warner Bros reportedly plans to make two films based on the six books in the series and aims to begin shooting the first in August.
Harry Potter's Steve Kloves has rewritten the script and the film will be directed by Albert Hughes.
