Eddie Marsan has said he thinks Filth is "up there with Trainspotting".
The Happy Go Lucky actor stars with James McAvoy, Jim Broadbent, Jamie Bell and Shirley Henderson in Jon S Baird's big screen adaptation of Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh's book about a junkie policeman trying to survive the festive season.
Eddie said: "It's a very, very good film. I saw it in LA and I was blown away about it. I think it's a fantastic film and Jon Baird the director... I think it's up there with Trainspotting. It's that good. Really, I think it's as good as Trainspotting."
Eddie added of Filth: "I play Bladesy, who I think is the only Englishman, so I'm bullied from pillar to post."
The 45-year-old actor starred with Bafta-winning actress Olivia Colman in Tyrannosaur in 2011.
He said of Broadchurch star Olivia's ever-growing success: "It's not unexpected. I first worked with Olivia about eight years ago and I knew then.
"As an actor you know who good actors are. Acting is an ethical thing, it's a character thing. You have to be very disciplined and very generous and Olivia was. It doesn't surprise me at all."
