Mark Strong has revealed he likes playing villains because they're interesting to him.

The English actor has a tendency to pick baddie roles, including a gangster in Kick-Ass, Lord Geoffrey Blackwood in Sherlock Holmes and mobster Archy in RocknRolla.

"They're my favourite - they're dark, interesting and multi-layered so I'm happy to play them," he said.

Mark, who is playing alien Sinestro in the upcoming superhero film Green Lantern, added: "For now, I feel like I'm mining a rich vein of dark characters, but they're all different - in one of them, I'm a medieval knight, in another I'm an Italian-American gangster, the next one I'm an alien."

:: Kick-Ass is in cinemas now.
