Courtney Love "despairs" at rumours Robert Pattinson is to play Kurt Cobain in a new biopic.

The Hole singer is producing the movie, based on the Charles R Cross 2001 biography on the life, music and 1994 suicide of her late husband.

Courtney tweeted about reports 'R-Patz' was in talks to play the Nirvana star: "I might despair and hey I like R-Patz, he's just not right for KC!"

She recently told the Canadian Press she could see Ryan Gosling or James McAvoy taking the part.

Courtney said she hopes to be able to approve the casting and have Sting's wife, Trudie Styler, act as her "proxy" to make sure the film suits her liking.

Courtney previously revealed she would like British directors Richard Curtis or Armando Iannucci to helm the project but The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button's David Fincher and The Messenger's Oren Moverman are currently tipped to be in the running for the job.

Scarlett Johansson has been linked to the role of Courtney.

Meanwhile, Nirvana drummer and Foo Fighter star Dave Grohl has said he wants The Shining's Shelley Duvall to play him.

He joked: "Just put a beard on her. Cate Blanchett did it in the Bob Dylan movie."
