Lawyers handling Lindsay Lohan's criminal case met in closed session with a judge and set a new court date.

The unscheduled meeting in Beverly Hills ended without any public discussion of the Hollywood star's progress at an inpatient rehab facility.

The treatment was part of a sentence imposed after another judge found the actress violated the terms of her probation in a 2007 drug case.

Lindsay will have a status hearing on August 25, court spokesman Allan Parachini said. He had no further details but said the star of Mean Girls and Georgia Rules will not be required to attend.

It was the first meeting of prosecutors, Lindsay's lawyer Shawn Holley and Judge Elden Fox, who took over the case after prosecutors complained about not being notified about discussions the previous judge held on the case.

Lindsay has been in treatment at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Centre since August 2 after serving 14 days in jail for the probation violation.

Her mother Dina Lohan said on NBC's Today show that her daughter would be released soon. However, any modification of the star's rehab would have to be approved by Judge Fox.
