Leonardo DiCaprio is to play prolific Chicago serial killer Dr HH Holmes in a film adaptation of non-fiction book The Devil In The White City.
The Inception star and his producing partners have bought the rights to Erik Larson's book about the cunning serial killer who lured women to his "murder castle" and after killing them would strip their skeletons to sell for medical and scientific research, Deadline reports.
While Chicago was getting ready to host the World's Fair of 1893, Holmes built The World's Fair Hotel especially for young, single women.
Using his charm he would lure guests into the hotel, complete with gas chamber, crematorium and a dissecting table, where he would murder his victims. He is believed to have killed between 27 and 200 people.
Leo's Appian Way partner Jennifer Killoran called The Devil In The White City: Murder, Magic And Madness At The Fair That Changed America "truly a one-of-its-kind American story about our nation's first serial killer. We're exited to bring it to the big screen".
The actor's Double Features partners Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher said: "This is a big, entertaining thriller in an incredible setting that will appeal to worldwide audience."
