Arnold Schwarzenegger plays a veteran cop in The Last Stand

Arnold Schwarzenegger's co-stars have heaped praise on him at the premiere of his new film The Last Stand.

The Terminator star plays a veteran cop who has been put out to pasture as the sheriff of a small town, only to find himself suddenly heading the mission to capture an escaped drugs baron.

How To Make It In America's Luis Guzman said working with Arnie was great. He added: "He's an easygoing guy, a pretty cool guy, it was a thrill to work with him."

Rodrigo Santoro who plays Deputy Frank Martinez said: "Working with him was great. he was fantastic with all of us, he was very generous.

"I grew up watching his films, so all of a sudden I'm there, sharing a scene with The Terminator, Conan, all of those huge heroes for me as a teenager. It was great and I'm very proud to be part of his return to the big screen after quite a while."

The film, which also stars Johnny Knoxville, marks Arnie's first starring role since he stepped down as Governor of California in 2010. Last year he appeared in ensemble action movie The Expendables 2.
