Shia LaBeouf is reportedly set to star in a film adaptation of John Grisham's The Associate.

Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura has said the Transformers star is attached to the project and movie blog 24 Frames reports Top Gun director Tony Scott is "just a step away" from signing up to direct the film.

Shia would play young lawyer Kyle McAvoy who has just graduated from Yale. But he has a dark secret from college, which he is desperate to forget.

But the secret falls into the wrong hands and he is forced to take a job as an associate at the largest law firm in the world, where, as well as practising law, he is expected to lie, steal, and take part in illegal and dangerous activities that could land him in jail or dead.

Scott is set to direct Mickey Rourke, Javier Bardem, Christopher Walken and Johnny Hallyday in the upcoming crime drama Potsdamer Platz.

He has also been reunited with frequent collaborator Denzel Washington for Unstoppable, which also stars Rosario Dawson and Chris Pine and is due out in November.
