Knightley wanted for Weinstein Co
Keira Knightley was asked to be the face of the Weinstein Company, it has been revealed.
Film mogul Harvey Weinstein told Shortlist magazine he once approached the Jack Ryan actress because he was so keen for her to promote the firm.
He said he also offered the position to My Week With Marilyn star Michelle Williams.
Harvey said: "For whatever reason, somehow, we've done some controversial movies and you end up being the face of your company.
"We desperately tried to get Keira Knightley to be the face of our company, but so did Chanel, and they paid better.
"Michelle Williams got two Oscar nominations in the last two movies I did with her, and she chose Louis Vuitton."
He went on: "We couldn't find anybody else, so me and my brother do it. We work for cheaper. Not for free, for cheaper."
Meanwhile, Harvey has also revealed that he is planning to make a film with Meryl Streep that he hopes will bring down the gun industry in the US.
He said during an interview with radio host Howard Stern: "I shouldn't say this, but I'll tell it to you, Howard. I'm going to make a movie with Meryl Streep, and we're going to take this head-on."
The film will be called The Senator's Wife and Harvey apparently said "they're (the National Rifle Association) going to wish they weren't alive after I'm done with them."
