Kick-Ass tops US box office
Ultraviolent Brit film Kick-Ass lived up to its name to see off the competition and top the US box office.
The film, directed by Matthew Vaughn and scripted by Jonathan Ross's wife Jane Goldman, took nearly £13 million during its opening weekend, following its release on Friday.
The story, adapted from Scottish writer Mark Millar's short comic book series, pushed kids film How To Train Your Dragon into second place in the box office chart.
Kick-Ass - which stars Aaron Johnson - has taken £9 million in the UK since its release last month.
Vaughn said: "It's fantastic that our British independent film is on top of the US box office. We're delighted that audiences everywhere are enjoying Kick-Ass."
