The US actor is set to team up with Universal and Wanda Media, as well as Village Roadshow and China Film Group, to make and distribute the martial arts movie, reported Collider.

The Matrix star will take a role as the villain, while Tiger Chen - who was part of the Matrix stunt team - stars as "as a young martial artist whose fighting skills brings him to a realm of vast opportunities, and painful choices."

The bilingual movie, which will be filmed in both Mandarin and English, is scheduled to start shooting in February in China.

Keanu has said he would not hold back on the fight scenes.

"There's 18 fights. We've timed it out. It's about 40 minutes of fighting," he revealed.

"I want to make a good, solid kung fu movie. Good story, good plot - but let's get some good kung fu going!"

He has also addressed the challenges with the international production, somewhat daunting for the first-time filmmaker, saying: "We want to do it in Chinese and English... It's tricky."
