Kazan: Making movie was a miracle

Zoe Kazan has revealed starring in a film she also wrote wasn't as difficult as she expected.

The actress, who appears alongside boyfriend Paul Dano in the comedy about a writer whose dream woman comes to life, enlisted husband-and-wife filmmaking team Valerie Faris and Jonathan Dayton to direct the film.

"They worked with me on the script for about nine months before we started, with them giving me notes and me re-writing, so by the time we got into the actual production, I felt almost as if I hadn't written it at all," Zoe said.

"I'd done so much work on it that it felt like a collaboration. It was very easy for me to give it away and surprisingly easy to forget that I had written it."

The daughter of screenwriters Nicholas Kazan and Robin Swicord, Zoe knows how rare it is for a script to make it to the big screen.

"It's really hard to get a movie made. I think that this was a miracle, so I don't know if I'm going to be able to have any more screenplays produced. I hope so," she said.

Asked to choose between starring in movies and writing them, she said: "Both. I want to keep writing and acting if I possibly can.

"I always just want to keep learning. I haven't got to do a lot of broad comedy, I think I'd enjoy that. Or some period pieces to stretch myself that way."
