Kate Winslet said she has a "pure, honest, genuine love" for acting as she picked up a special recognition gong.
The star received the Variety Award at the Moet British Independent Film Awards - an honour that recognises someone who has made a global impact and helped to focus the international spotlight on the UK.
Winslet, 40, said she hoped she represented someone who is "still a Brit and still accessible" even though she has worked a lot abroad, especially in America.
"I have also worked here a lot and there's nothing more thrilling than working in the UK. I mean, I just absolutely love it," she said.
The Titanic actress said it was "just so gorgeous" to hear English voices every day when she was working on A Little Chaos directed by Alan Rickman.
"And you're all working as hard as each other and looking out for one another, and it's a very specific, specific to the UK, atmosphere that is generated on set," she said.
Asked about what motivates her as an actress, she said it was her "pure, honest, genuine love of acting".
She added: "I can't imagine not having it. I can't imagine not doing it. I can't imagine ever getting sick of it, which is amazing really if you think about it after 23 years of doing this now.
"I feel very, very lucky that I'm still so fuelled by this profession and as terrified of it as I always was in the beginning and love it as much as I do."
