The new Jurassic Park film will not be a reboot of the original but will be a new adventure, its director has said.

Colin Trevorrow wrote on Twitter that Jurassic World - which will star Bryce Dallas Howard - won't be a remake of the 1993 movie.

He said his movie, the fourth instalment in the dinosaur franchise, will be set 22 years after the events of the first film.

"Reboot is a strong word. This is a new sci-fi terror adventure set 22 years after the horrific events of Jurassic Park," he tweeted.

Nick Robinson and Ty Simpkins are also on board for the 3D follow-up, which comes 14 years since 2001's Jurassic Park III. And there have been reports that Chris Pratt, Irrfan Khan and Josh Brolin could be involved.

Jurassic Park director Steven Spielberg is to co-produce the sequel, to be released by Universal in June 2015.
