Jake Johnson has revealed he was upset when Damon Wayans Jr decided to sign up to Happy Endings.

The pair starred together in the pilot of New Girl, before Damon went on to appear in the other comedy.

"When Damon went back to Happy Endings, I was legitimately mad at him. Because when you're doing the show, that was at the time when I didn't know anybody else so I was like, 'Well I got one good buddy', and then he went," he admitted.

Jake was so disappointed, he even tried to ignore Damon when they bumped into each other.

"I was really mad at him. Then one day, I was in Hollywood with my wife - I hadn't seen him in about a year - and he pulled up. It was like I was a scorned lover," he continued.

"I don't know what overtook me. I wouldn't even talk to him. My wife was like, 'That's Damon!' and I'm like, 'He wanted to do Happy Endings contractually so, he can deal with not having me!' But I regret that. I wasn't handling it as an adult man."

The duo, who are reunited in buddy comedy Let's Be Cops and the third series of New Girl, said their friendship helped them with the improvisational aspect of the film.

"We did a lot of bits together so we knew. When we decided to do the script, we called each other, then went back to the director, the writer and the producers and said, 'We would love to do it as a package if we can kind of open it up'. And they were into it."

:: Let's Be Cops is in cinemas now.
