Screen veteran John Hurt is to head the cast in a BBC ghost story.
He stars in Whistle And I'll Come To You, an adaptation of an MR James story about a man who encounters an apparition on a desolate beach.
Hurt said he was "thrilled" to be working on the BBC Two film, "particularly as I've never done a ghost story before and I love to have new territory to walk".
The 70-year-old actor is famed for roles such as Quentin Crisp in The Naked Civil Servant and John Merrick in The Elephant Man.
The new film has been written by Neil Cross who created BBC One detective series Luther. Cross said: "I grew up loving ghost stories, classic and modern. But I never got to tell a ghost story until the BBC offered me the opportunity."
Filming begins later this month with Gemma Jones, who has featured in Harry Potter and Spooks, and Leslie Sharp in the cast.
