Jane Fonda signs up for Youth role
Jane Fonda has joined the cast of The Great Beauty director Paolo Sorrentino's new film Youth.
This will reunite the 76-year-old actress with Sir Michael Caine, who she worked with on Hurry Sundown in 1967 and 1978 comedy California Suite.
Rachel Weisz, Harvey Keitel and Paul Dano have also been cast in the Oscar-winning Italian director's next project, Deadline revealed.
Youth centres on two old friends, both approaching 80, holidaying together at a lavish hotel at the foot of the Alps.
Fred, a composer and conductor, is retired, and has no intention of ever working again, but someone is determined to see him conduct his own work again. Meanwhile his friend, film director Mick is working hard to finish the screenplay for what he imagines will be his last important film. At the end of their careers the pair reflect on the future of the young people around them.
It has not been revealed who is playing which role.
Paolo won the best foreign language film Oscar this year for his spectacular film The Great Beauty, about an ageing socialite reflecting on his decadent life in Rome.
Youth is expected to be released in May next year, in time for the Cannes Film Festival.
