Jake's couch jumping excitement

Jake Gyllenhaal hopes children will pretend to be his Prince Of Persia character

Jake Gyllenhaal has said he hopes his Prince Of Persia role will have the same effect on young viewers as Indiana Jones did on him when he was a child.

The Brokeback Mountain star said he hoped children would be jumping off of sofas pretending to be his character Dastan, just like he'd done when he was younger.

"Oh man, if that happens that'll be a dream come true, that's the reason why I made this movie," he explained.

He went on: "I made this movie for the kid in me that loved Indiana Jones, loved The Goonies, and now to think that maybe a movie I'm in would inspire that type of crazy activity... couch jumping - it's a dream if that happens!"

The actor added he was happy to take on a lighter role.

"I've seen a lot my peers starting to not take themselves not so seriously and make fun big films and I was itching to try my hand at it," he said.

"As I've got a little bit older, I feel like I don't want to take myself so seriously anymore and I think as much as those movies meant to me, it's time to have a little fun too."

:: Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time will be released in UK cinemas on May 28.
