Samuel L Jackson has reportedly joined the RoboCop remake.

The Hollywood Reporter says that the Avengers Assemble actor will star in the film, which would mark a reunion for him and his fellow True Romance actor Gary Oldman.

Samuel is tipped to play Pat Novak, "a charismatic TV mogul and powerful force in the RoboCop world", while Gary is portraying the creator of man-turned-machine RoboCop.

Rising actor Joel Kinnaman has already been cast as the lead role of the cyborg police officer in Jose Padilha's upcoming movie, which has been adapted by Zodiac and The Amazing Spider-Man writer James Vanderbilt.

Filming is set to kick off in Toronto this September with a release date of summer 2013.

Samuel, who reprised his role as Nick Fury in Marvel superhero blockbuster Avengers Assemble, will next be seen in Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained and Iron Man 3.
