Rhys Ifans says working with Ben Stiller on new indie flick Greenberg was "just a joy".
The Notting Hill star sang Ben's praises at the Hollywood premiere of the movie, saying: "[Ben] is very different and it's a testament to him as an actor how he completely embraced this role."
In the movie, Ben plays Roger Greenberg, a New Yorker who moves to Los Angeles in order to figure out his life while he house-sits for his brother, while Rhys plays an old friend of Roger's.
Rhys admitted working with filmmaker and writer Noah Baumbach drew him to the movie.
"There were a few occasions when we were ahead of time, and Noah would let me and Ben run with the ball a bit and improvise, but of course it ended up completely un-broadcastable," he laughed.
"The writing is so kind of precise and elegant, generally when you're asked to improvise it's because there are huge flaws in the script - in this case there wasn't. It was just an elegant, precise piece of writing," he added.
"It's an observation, and when an observation is true it makes us smile and laugh affectionately at ourselves."
