Ice Cube is in talks to reprise his role for Barbershop 3, after a decade-long hiatus.
MGM is interested in reviving the comedy franchise, and is said to be negotiating a deal with the rapper-actor to return, reported Deadline.
Queen Latifah and Cedric the Entertainer, who starred in the second film, could also be back for the third instalment.
Writers are being sought for the film, which will also be produced by Ice Cube's producing partner Matt Alvarez, Bob Teitel and George Tillman Jr.
The original 2002 film, directed by Tim Story and set in Chicago, starred Ice Cube and Anthony Anderson. The same cast featured in the 2004 sequel, Barbershop 2: Back In Business, with Kevin Rodney Sullivan in the director's chair. Both movies combined made around 140 million US dollars worldwide.
Cube, last seen in comedy Ride Along with Kevin Hart, will star in 22 Jump Street alongside Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, and will reprise his role in Ride Along 2.
He is also producing the NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton, which will be directed by F Gary Gray and is set to start production in the summer.
