The Oscar-winning actor is considering an offer to play the pivotal role of eccentric uncle Jeb, one of the leaders of the human survivalists fighting the alien invasion, in Andrew Niccol's big-screen adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's best-selling novel, Entertainment Weekly reports.

Saoirse Ronan is already on board as Melanie Stryder, a young woman whose body is invaded by an alien name Wanderer, while Max Irons has been cast as Jared Howe, a young man in love with her.

Jake Abel is set to portray Ian, who is in love with Wanderer, leading to a complicated love triangle.

The Host, which has been written and directed by Andrew, is set to open in cinemas in spring 2013.
