Hollywood stars sign up for film of Sebastian Barry novel to be shot here
FILM producer Noel Pearson has cast two Hollywood stars for his new movie, which is to be filmed in Ireland next year.
The 71-year-old told the Irish Independent that a contract securing two-time Oscar-nominated Jessica Chastain and Academy Award winner Vanessa Redgrave was signed this week and will see the actresses play the female leads in a film version of author Sebastian Barry's 'The Secret Scripture'.
Pearson, who was the producer behind box office hits 'My Left Foot' and 'The Field', said the deals were finalised earlier this week and that filming will begin in June next year.
Barry's novel 'The Secret Scripture' was released in 2008. The story is told by Roseanne – who is uncertain of her age – and recounts her journey in asylums in Ireland for over 60 years.
As the story unfolds, audiences discover the reason for Roseanne's incarceration and are also introduced to the second narrator of the novel, Roseanne's psychiatrist Dr William Grene.
"This is something that has been in the pipeline for over a year and finalising the leads has been a lengthy enough process, so we're delighted they've come on board," Pearson said.
Chastain will portray a younger Roseanne in the film, while acting veteran Redgrave (76), the mother-in-law of Liam Neeson, will play the character in her later years.
