Tom Hiddleston has admitted he met The Avengers director Joss Whedon, but refused to confirm rumours he will be appearing in the comic book movie extravaganza.

The Wallander star plays arch villain Loki in Marvel movie Thor, opposite Chris Hemsworth as the superhero, one of the many who will feature in Joss's movie The Avengers, and Tom is rumoured to have been cast to reprise his role of Loki in the film.

Tom said: "I met him actually, I met Joss in passing when we were shooting Thor but I honestly don't know what his plans are. He's got a full plate I'm sure, he doesn't want to talk to me."

The 30-year-old British actor has in the last year worked with director Kenneth Branagh on Thor, Woody Allen on his new film Midnight In Paris, Steven Spielberg on his movie adaptation of War Horse and Terence Davies on his drama The Deep Blue Sea, co-starring Rachel Weisz.

Tom said: "It's been a rollercoaster ride. The directors I've worked with in the space of one year are on the wish list of the directors I'd like to work with in one lifetime to be honest.

"To go from Kenneth Branagh to Steven Spielberg to Woody Allen to Terence Davies.

"I mean all four of them are some of the most accomplished cinematic artists in living memory... never mind living memory, in the history of cinema. Each of them has a very specific way of working but it's been a complete dream and I've been very, very lucky."
