The Queen actress stars in Brighton Rock, which depicts clashes between the mods and rockers in the 1960s.

"My auntie had a bed and breakfast in Brighton, so actually when I was about 16 I worked as a waitress in her bed and breakfast serving the breakfast," she revealed at the movie's premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. "I worked as a waitress in Brighton, funnily enough now I'm running a tea shop in the film."

She added she was a big fan of the seaside resort.

"I know Brighton pretty well, it's a beautiful, beautiful city and it's got very much its own character," she said.

"I spent a wonderful summer in Brighton and I've never forgotten it. It's a great, not rough, slightly funky, louche town. It's got a very strong character."

The film, directed by Rowan Joffe, also stars John Hurt, Sam Riley, Andy Serkis and Andrea Riseborough.
