Amber Heard drew on her Texas roots for her role in Drive Angry.
The actress joins Nicolas Cage in the high-octane 3D action film where she plays a "small-town waitress with a bad attitude and a heart of gold".
"I drew a lot of my own Texas upbringing into making this character real and I think that inspired me," the 24-year-old said at the film's Hollywood premiere.
She added: "My love of muscle cars certainly helped. I love muscle cars, I drive a '68 Mustang, it's my baby!"
Amber, who came out in December and revealed she's been in a relationship with girlfriend Tasya van Ree since 2008, told reporters she was thrilled to get to throw herself around for the role.
"I did a lot of my own stunts and it was a lot of fun, going home bruised and broken and tired is all part of the experience," she laughed.
"What more could I want?" she admitted. "I have a bad a** female character, strong, feisty leading lady. She's no one's damsel in distress and I get to do it all opposite Nicolas Cage."
