Irish actress Saoirse Ronan looked every inch the classic film star last night at the London premiere of her latest movie.

The 16-year-old turned heads on the red carpet where she posed alongside co-star Colin Farrell for the opening of 'The Way Back'.

The film tells the true story of a group of escapees from a Soviet Gulag during World War Two who made their way on foot from Siberia to freedom in India.

In contrast to the film's gritty theme of human endurance, however, the Irish pair brought a distinct element of glamour to London's Curzon Mayfair cinema.

'The Way Back' is being tipped as a possible Oscar contender and has received positive reviews ahead of its release here on St Stephen's Day.

Saoirse already has one Oscar nomination under her belt from her role in 'Atonement' three years ago.

In the film she plays a Polish teenager who runs away with the rag-tag group of prisoners, as they attempt to walk more than 6,000km to escape Stalin's Russia.
