Giant pizza thrower for Comic-Con
Pizza Hut is to send a gigantic pizza thrower to San Diego's Comic-Con to promote the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film.
The food chain and Paramount Pictures have partnered to bring what is described as "an enormous live-action Pizza Thrower" to the convention, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Standing at an impressive 12 feet tall and nine feet wide, with a tower that rotates a cannon 16 feet long through 180 degrees, the machine allows attendees to take (fake) pizza shots at stand-ins for the Turtles' enemies including Shredder.
The thrower, which was developed by Synn Labs, was built using the chassis of an old pick-up truck that has been heavily modified, including being painted with a "pizza-resistant finish", for the job.
Pizza Hut's senior marketing director Jared Drinkwater said that the construction of the pizza thrower was "one of the coolest things we've seen in a while", adding that attendees of the show "are going to love taking down Shredder, sampling Cheesy Bites Pizza and will have a lot of fun with both of our brands throughout the convention."
This is the latest partnership between Pizza Hut and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles brand, following the release of an ad featuring the crime-fighting reptilian heroes.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, starring Megan Fox and William Fichtner and produced by Michael Bay, will be released in UK cinemas on October 17.
San Diego Comic-Con runs from July 24 to 27.
