John Krasinski has been reportedly offered a screen test for Captain America

US Office star John Krasinski is being considered for the part of Captain America in a new movie.

Marvel has invited seven actors to take part in a screen-test to play the comic book hero, according to The Hollywood Reporter, including Gossip Girls star Chace Crawford.

Chace has yet to commit to the test, but those confirmed to give it a go are Smallville star Michael Cassidy, Brothers actor Patrick Flueger, Friday Night Lights' Scott Porter and Cloverfield's Mike Vogel.

Garrett Hedlund, star of upcoming Tron, has also apparently been invited to try out for the role but is yet to commit to the audition.

The film will follow a World War II soldier who is transformed into Captain America after being injured.

The First Avenger: Captain America is scheduled for release on July 22 next year.
