Franco gets killer role in Iceman
James Franco is set to play a serial killer in The Iceman, it has been confirmed.
The Bafta-nominated 127 Hours actor will portray assassin Robert Pronge, nicknamed Mr Softee, in the thriller directed by Ariel Vromen.
Benicio Del Toro will star as notorious mobster DeMeo, while Revolutionary Road actor Michael Shannon will play callous contract killer Richard Kuklinski aka the Iceman.
The Iceman, based on Anthony Bruno's book The Iceman: The True Story Of A Cold-Blooded Killer and interview footage from The Iceman Tapes: Conversations With A Killer documentary, tells the chilling true story of Kuklinski, a family man who led a deadly secret life as a hitman, who had killed over 100 people. He earned his moniker by freezing the bodies of his victims.
The director said in a statement: "I am honoured to work with such a talented cast on such a compelling story. Since the early stages of development I had the dream of casting Michael Shannon as Kuklinski, as I believe there's no one else that can play this part better than him."
